The world is split straight through the core with a southern waterfall the size of a small continent. The rushing water inexorably pulls all land masses towards it.
Meanwhile, in the north, geysers and hot springs provide abundant, non-destructive water for the population centers growing there.

So what if the first adventure was “the party is to be sacrificed to the sirens. They fight (and presumably defeat) the sirens. They have to survive some time on the island, awaiting rescue.”
Sirens occupying small rooted outcroppings.
Actually, I envisioned cays hiring bands of elementals to fight against the currents Jessica: thats good too me: But both ideas work Like, maybe the elementals are less expensive, but also less successful Jessica: and in some situation the elementals have been run off and there is a monster and that is where your players come in me: Yeah. Or rival elementals have been hired to thwart the band trying to save a cay
there could even be bulletins that go out via courier, adjust caysouth 8 degrees north. and that could be the joke, that caysouth keeps moving north… but yet toward the falls. however slowly and of course the guild might even have it out for certain cays and therefore prohibit abilities to root down for a while. we should assume this is allowable for a price and cays might even band together at times and it is of course a huge production with lots of giant ropes and chains and sweat and often failure
the idea of a ‘floating’ map. that the treasure hunters use. where they have to adjust where the islands sit. and there are known springs on this map
And the further north you go, the more available the sources of fresh water, but the tighter the restrictions from the guild. Like most rooted islands and least hold one source of fresh water Jessica: right. and have created various ways to transport it hither and yon me: Right. Some do so freely and benevolently. Like “come to the spring, take away your water” And some do so for money. “come to the spring and pay me 5 silver and you can take some water”
Town names take on an aspect of the fresh water source?
Fresh water sources: cenote, fount, geyser, pool, spa, spring, wellspring
on the yucatan peninsula in mexico, there are underwater rivers i mean, undergroud rivers and they open up into these giant perfectly circle Cenotes, they are called because the whole peninsula of the yucatan is just a limestone shelf that has risen out of the sea
So with islands of middle size, how far out do the shallow waters usually go? Is it pretty random? Jessica: depends on the ocean floor pacific coast, its deep right off the get-go. like hundreds of feet atlantic coast, its much more gradual
Mangrove forests, and other plant life, growing out of the water without land in site.
First adventure – What about a rooted island barely hanging on RIGHT at the edge of the falls? And that’s sort of where all these pirates reportedly buried treasure? And the players are part of a crew on a treasure hunting ship that is risking the falls to get to this island.
and dont forget the importance of flying creatures. birds, bugs, what have you there could be one adventure level with a swarm of giant knats.
Using giant eagles/griffons, etc. as rapid couriers
um. yes and it was brought on by some gas or somehting in the air, a ‘dreamers gasp’ or somthing you can call it. something that moves on the winds over the planets surface and you can see it coming but can’t always get out of it’s way and it’s like, messed up air or a cloud and they sail into it and think they’ve gone horribly off course and are plunging into the real falls
me: So I figure that the “going over the falls and figuring out what is happening, and then finding a route to the surface through the underfalls” is a really good Paragon tier And then facing whomever is responsible for setting up the system and trying to fix it is a good epic tier
Adventure – Rooted land mass in danger of becoming unrooted due to deterioration, sabotage, and the characters are hired to investigate what could be the cause and why.
Alternately, unrooted islands could be named Cay__, i.e. Caybonnie, Caydemulra.
The unrooted islands are all named ___cay. Often after the original inhabitant, i.e. Williamscay.
Alluvion – Name of Wizarding Observatory.
Spate – Rooted landmass, home of merchant guilds and commerce.
Freshet – Northernmost societal construct.
Eidolon – automatons who control under-falls.
